Couple Therapy
What is couples therapy, and how can it assist you?
Couples therapy provides a regulated environment in which you and your partner may step back from daily problems and explore what is truly going on in your relationship. It’s about discovering the patterns that keep you trapped, improving your communication skills, and reconnecting with yourself.
Rather than focusing on who is right or wrong, we help you explore how you relate to one another and discover new ways of being together that are more rewarding and authentic.
People seek marriage therapy for a variety of reasons. You may be familiar with some of these:
1. Feeling as if you’re living separate lives.
2. Repeating arguments without resolving them
3. Having difficulty making parenting judgments or approaches.
4. Managing significant life changes that have thrown you off balance.
5. Managing sexual issues or mismatched needs
6. Bridging cultural or religious gaps.
7. Managing the impact of neurodivergence on relationships
8. Dealing with betrayal and shattered trust
What to expect.
Sessions usually last 50 minutes with both partners present. Most couples attend weekly or fortnightly, and while each situation is unique, many people notice significant changes within the first six sessions.
It’s quite normal to be worried before starting; many people are concerned about broaching sensitive topics or are unsure of what to expect. You don’t have to be equally enthusiastic at first; it’s normal for one partner to be more prepared than the other.
We accept all relationship patterns and identities, including LGBTQ+ couples, polyamorous unions, and partnerships that do not match typical stereotypes. What matters is that you are committed to getting to know one another better.
Our approach.
At Uplift Therapy, we recognise that no two relationships are the same. We employ a range of therapeutic approaches, including attachment theory and existential theory, and tailor our procedures to what works best for you both.
Getting started
We offer initial consultations, during which you can discuss your circumstances and determine whether couples therapy is a good fit for you. Everything shared in treatment is private between you, your partner, and your therapist.
